Im Jahr 1987 wird Astronaut Buck Rogers auf einen Erkundungsflug geschickt. Sein Raumschiff kommt vom vorgegebenen Kurs ab. Buck wird für 500 Jahre eingefroren und wacht im 25. Jahrhundert in einem drakonischen Raumschiff auf. Dort verliebt sich die schöne Ardala in ihn.

In the year 1987, NASA launched space probe Ranger III, with astronaut William "Buck" Rogers, on a 5-month trip around the solar system. However, the craft runs into a meteor storm, which disrupts its life support system and sends it into a long elliptical orbit of the Earth. In the year 2491, Ranger III again approaches the Earth, and is intercepted by the alien flagship Draconia, which is on a peace mission to Earth. Aboard the Draconia, Buck is revived by Princess Ardala and her second-in-command, Kane, whose true plan is to attack and conquer Earth. Buck is sent to Earth with a hidden homing device, which is soon discovered by Earth's Defense Directorate. After Buck convinces the humans of his true identity -- a man from the past -- he helps them to repel the Draconians' attack, with the aid of the mechanoids Dr. Theopolis and Twiki.

En 1987, la NASA envoie le capitaine Buck Rogers en mission à bord de Ranger III. Pris dans une tempête cosmique, l'astronaute perd le contrôle de son appareil et erre en orbite autour de la Terre. Buck se réveille 500 ans plus tard. Il a été recueilli par l'équipage du Draconia, le vaisseau amiral royal de la Princesse Ardala. Décryogénisé, il découvre un monde métamorphosé. La Princesse Ardala et son second, Kane, qui se préparent à attaquer la Terre, le soupçonne d'être une taupe envoyée par le Directorat fédéral de la Terre... Buck est condamné pour trahison ! Il veut avoir une chance de prouver son innocence en manipulant à son tour la Princesse Ardala. Le colonel Deering est prêt à lui donner l'occasion de laver son nom...
