The messaging via pigeon continues. One day, they learn Anthony plans to participate in a rodeo in Tom's village. When Eliza learns of Anthony's plans, she informs great-aunt Elroy who charges Candy with the mission to dissuade Anthony on a visit out of fear for injury. Tom puts the risk of injury in perspective, and Candy mostly fears that Anthony will never really be able to embrace life under his great-aunt's wing. As they discuss the several rodeo contests, including a lasso-throwing contest, Candy has the idea to recruit Archibald and Alistear into joining along with the argument that if they all join the rodeo then their great-aunt cannot be angry with Anthony alone. But upon great-aunt Elroy's request the organizer denies them entry into the competitions. Per Candy's suggestion, Tom spreads the rumor in town that the Ardleys are cowards and the rodeo becomes a matter of family honor. Great-aunt Elroy relents and even cheers on Anthony from her carriage as he attempts to remain in the saddle while bronco-busting and beats Tom.
Malgré l’interdiction, Anthony et Candy correspondent, d’abord par pigeon voyageur, puis par un ballon conçu par Alistair, lequel ballon arrive chez Élisa. Ainsi, la tante Elroy découvre qu’Anthony veut participer à un rodéo et veut l’en dissuader, mais une campagne habilement menée réussit à la convaincre de le laisser participer. Et c’est Anthony qui remporte le rodéo.
Lo scambio di posta tra Candy e Anthony attraverso il piccione prosegue a ritmo sostenuto. Un giorno Anthony esprime l'intenzione di partecipare al rodeo che si svolge al paese ove abita Tom, ma Iriza viene a sapere dei suoi piani e corre subito ad informare la zia Elroy la quale, preoccupata che un possibile incidente possa accadergli, fa promettere a Candy di cercar di dissuaderlo.
Mentre Anthony attende il concorso di lancio del lazo a cui vuole gareggiare, Candy ha l'idea di chiedere anche ad Archie e Stear di partecipare allo stesso rodeo assistendo Anthony: tutti riuniti, per la zia Elroy non è più possibile esser in collera col solo Anthony. L'organizzatore però, pagato dalla donna, nega ai ragazzi la possibilità d'iscriversi.
Tom allora, dietro suggerimento di Candy, sparge nel paese la voce che gli Andrew sono in realtà dei codardi: il rodeo diviene così una questione d'onore per la famiglia. La zia Elroy cede e Anthony partecipa alle gare accompagnato da Tom.
Anthony es recuido en la casa del bosque y allí se hace muy amigo de Tom por lo que decide participar en un rodeo montando, la tía abuela se lo prohíbe pero gracias a la ayuda de Candy y Tom cambia de opinión, Anthony participa y gana el rodeo.
