Young Chris Taylor,a boy with learning difficulties,was sentenced for murder but the conviction has been over-turned as unsound as it was felt the police bullied him into a confession. Eve and Ajay interview the investigating officers and the Taylor family,receiving conflicting opinions - Chris's mother believing he was guilty. Eve and Jake resume their relationship,despite Jake being stalked by Ally,a gay man who wrote to him in prison and to whom he replied believing Ally was a girl. Eve decides to ask Wicklow...

    Corporal Mark Weir is blown to bits at an outdoor training exercise at Brentfield barracks but when the police arrive on the scene they are puzzled as no live ammunition was used in the exercise. Then they discover the remains of a woman's corpse with an explosive device in her mouth,clearly detonated to kill Mark - who,it turns out was a closet gay. Hazel asks for Jake's involvement,to Eve's discomfort,following the attack by Ally. Eve believes the woman was killed by lieutenant Howard Stubbs,an arrogant ladies' man.     When a young child named Jake Osbourne is abducted from a shopping centre the police believe that the name match is no coincidence and,as the media go to town on it,Eve is convinced that Wicklow is involved. CCTV footage shows a woman taking Jake and the immediate suspect is Wicklow's unstable sister Barbara. On arriving at her house the police find a forty-year old foetus on her bed but no sign of Barbara,whom they eventually trick into coming forward with the news that her brother,who has terminal liver cancer,is dead. Barbara denies all knowledge of taking the child but in the meantime Wicklow manages to escape from custody and Jake's son Joss goes missing,leading to a bloody showdown involving Wicklow,Eve and Jake.
