In den Everglades wird die Leiche des Jägers Wade Hinkle gefunden. Sein Jagdgefährte, Joshua Keating, taucht kurze Zeit später auf dem Revier mit einem blauen Auge auf und gibt zu mit dem Toten einen handfesten Streit ausgetragen zu haben. Die ganze Geschichte kommt auch den Ermittlern ziemlich merkwürdig vor, bis Calleigh am Gewehr ziemlich charakteristische Kratzspuren entdeckt. Es stellt sich heraus, dass während des Kampfes zwischen den beiden Shula, der Hund von Joshua Keating, nervös herumgesprungen ist, gegen das Gewehr gekommen und Wade Hinkle erschossen hat. Noch während die Ermittler den Tatort betrachten, findet Horatio eine weitere, diesmal weibliche Leiche, die starke Schädelverletzungen und menschliche Bissspuren in ihrer Brust aufweist. Ganz offensichtlich ist diese Frau einem Triebtäter zum Opfer gefallen. Anhand von Reifenspuren in der Nähe des Tatorts stoßen die Ermittler auf Dale Stahl. In dessen Auto findet sich ein Casino-Ausweis von Julie Bryant und ein blondes Haar. Da das blonde Haar DNS-mäßig zu der Toten passt und Julie Bryant blond gewesen ist, vermuten die Ermittler, dass es sich bei der Toten um sie handelt. Doch am nächsten Tag taucht Julie Bryant wohlbehalten auf dem Revier auf.

Delko and Alexx are nearly burned alive when they investigate the death of a hunter found shot near a supposedly controlled burn in the Everglades. The fire suddenly rages out of control and traps them, forcing them to take refuge under a tarpaulin. Later, a second body is discovered, and this time it's a young woman who looks to have been beaten to death. After bite marks are found on the victim's breasts, Horatio is led to believe a sex offender is behind the attack – and the fire.

Les Everglades sont en feu. Delko et Alex se rendent sur les lieux, un endroit sécurisé, pour le corps d'un chasseur retrouvé morts. Soudain ils sont surpris par les flammes. Horatio en menant l'enquête sur ce deuxième incendie découvre le corps d'une fille, complètement brûlée.
