Der 18jährige Elvis nimmt in den SUN-Studios von Memphis den Song „My Happiness“ auf. Er bezahlt vier Dollar dafür und schenkt die Platte seiner Mutter zum Geburtstag. Sam Phillips, der Eigentümer von SUN-RECORDS, holt Elvis ins Studio und nimmt mit ihm den Song „That’s allright (Mama)“ auf. Auf allen Radiostationen wird der Song gespielt. Der plötzliche Ruhm trifft Elvis völlig unerwartet, die Mädchen himmeln ihn an und er wird mit allen Schattenseiten des Ruhms und Erfolges konfrontiert.
