Carter is back in Chicago with Kem in tow. His return to the hospital is uneventful, although there is an awkward moment when Abby meets Kem. Sam gets called to Alex's school; it seems that he was suturing his own cut. She asks Abby whether the nurses' insurance covers family therapy. Gallant discovers that his sister has been sleeping with Pratt, although she later dumps him. Pratt accidentally breaks a patient's neck while doing an unsupervised intubation. A whole nursing shift cannot go home until they find one missing Valium. Luka informs Weaver that he's leaving for the Congo in two weeks. However, he later changes his mind.

Carter è ritornato a Chicago insieme a Kem. Il suo arrivo all'ospedale si svolge tutto sommato senza incidenti, anche se vi è un momento imbarazzante quando Kem incontra Abby per la prima volta. Sam viene chiamata alla scuola di Alex dove sembra che il giovane abbia cercato di suturarsi una ferita da solo. La ragazza chiede ad Abby se l'assicurazione delle infermiere copre anche i familiari di queste ultime. Gallant scopre che sua sorella è andata a letto con Pratt, anche se nel frattempo lo ha già scaricato. Lo stesso Pratt, durante una maldestra intubazione, rompe l'osso del collo ad un paziente malato di osteoporosi. Del Valium, che era stato sottratto, viene rinvenuto tra gli effetti personali di Kerry. Luka sta per partire di nuovo per il Congo, ma poi ci ripensa e decide di rimanere a Chicago.

Pratt se hunde al comprobar que cada una de sus decisiones médicas son desestimadas. Salva heroicamente la vida de una persona que ha tenido un accidente gracias a una resonancia magnética crucial, pero se equivoca al apresurarse a entubar al hijo del accidentado, que tiene osteoporosis, y acaba fracturándole el cuelle y dejándolo paralítico de por vida. Por otra parte, Kovac informa a Weaver de que vuelve a África. Y Sam siente que está descuidando a su hijo, que está empezando a portarse mal en el colegio.
