Her mom is a devout Christian, in town with her choir, and does not understand Weaver's lifestyle "choice". She offers her love, but Weaver just wants acceptance. Jake has been spending every night at Abby's apartment. Abby says it's out of convenience, but Neela thinks otherwise. Jake and Abby have trouble hiding their relationship at work, especially from Weaver.

Weaver atiende a Helen Kingsley (Frances Fisher), una paciente que, mientras está siendo atendida le dice a la doctora que en realidad es su madre biológica; la madre que con apenas 15 años la entregó en adopción. Esta noticia hace que la doctora tenga un descomunal enfado y que lo pague con el servicio de urgencias. Pero su madre biológica, tras salir del hospital, insistie en verla, y ambas se citan. Durante el encuentro, Weaver le comunica que es lesbiana y madre soltera. La reacción de la mujer no es la que esperaba la doctora, ya que Helen no se muestra comprensiva y rechaza, debido a sus creencias religiosas, la opción sexual de Weaver. Abby acepta salir con Jake, que ha terminado su rotación en urgencias. Por su parte el doctor Pratt atiende al Sr Fishler, un enfermo con alzheimer. Su hija, Jane (Sara Gilbert) insiste al médico para que su padre sea llevado a una clínica especializada ya que se encuentra desesperada por no poder atenderlo adecuadamente.
