Season 1

  • S01E01 Thin Air

    • January 25, 2009
    • BBC Two

Mountain adventure programme with Graham Bell and Ed Leigh. Graham Bell and British skier Noel Baxter have spent their lives trying to get down mountains as fast as they can. Now they attempt to do the opposite as they set out to climb Mont Blanc, western Europe's highest mountain. Ed Leigh takes actor Ralf Little on an adrenalin-fuelled ride over the Swiss Alps as they skydive on to a large glacier. Ed and Ralf enjoy the remaining descent the old-fashioned way - on skis.

  • S01E02 Fear

    • February 1, 2009
    • BBC Two

Ed and Graham are in New Zealand where they attempt a 'Tyrolean Traverse' - a 100m crossing between two mountain peaks - on a single piece of rope. Supermodel and avid skier Jodie Kidd then goes on the trip of a lifetime heli-skiing with Ed and Graham. While the untouched powder is exhilarating, Kidd discovers first hand the serious avalanche dangers of off-piste skiing.

  • S01E03 Man vs Mountain

    • February 8, 2009
    • BBC Two

Graham takes on the Arctic Circle Race, a marathon 160km cross country trek through the beautiful wilderness of Greenland. Only the most determined and resilient competitors even make it to the starting line - let alone the finish. Rugby legends Jeremy Guscott and Brian Moore then team up with Ed and Graham for a marathon ski race in Switzerland. Both teams must ski all five ski areas between Davos and Klosters in one day. Brian will attempt the challenge off piste with Graham. Jeremy, a novice, will stick to the piste with Ed.

  • S01E04 Speed

    • February 15, 2009
    • BBC Two

When it comes to danger, nothing compares to speed skiing. Despite all the risks, Graham will attempt to reach 200kph on the world championship course - that's nearly twice our road speed limit. In a quest for speed, Ed then turns to Shelley Rudman, Olympic silver medallist in the bob skeleton to see just how fast he can travel. Shelley and World Cup Champion, Kristan Bromley, have just two days to get Ed in shape and down one of the most challenging and dangerous tracks in Europe.

  • S01E05 Survival

    • February 22, 2009
    • BBC Two

The mountains can be incredibly hostile and dangerous if you are left to fend for yourself overnight. We leave Graham to survive a night alone in the wilds of the Andes - while Ed leads a rescue party to find him the next day. Ed then travels with historian Dan Snow to Finland to tell the incredible story of the 1939 Winter War, when the country was invaded by Russia. They will explain some of the innovative tactics used - and experience first hand some of the modern training methods that make the Finns such a formidable winter warfare nation.

  • S01E06 Fire & Ice

    • March 1, 2009
    • BBC Two

Pulling yourself up a wall of ice using just ice picks and crampons is both dangerous and difficult. Graham and Ed find out just how difficult as they travel to the Exploradores Glacier in Chile and attempt to climb a 125ft glacier wall. Newsreader Fiona Bruce then finds out just what it takes for the average holiday skier to tackle one of the longest and most challenging glaciers in the world, the Jungfraujoch in Switerland. Graham and Ed help Fiona down one of the most famous one-day tours in the world - 24km of unbroken glacier descent.

  • S01E07 Nature's Force

    • March 8, 2009
    • BBC Two

Graham and Ed invite Duran Duran frontman, Simon Le Bon and his brother Jonny, to a frozen lake in Sweden in a quest for sailing supremacy - on ice. They will fly across the ice on catamarans at speeds of up to 100kph in an exhilarating - and potentially very dangerous competition. We then set Ed and Graham the challenge of accessing the highest mountain peaks using natural means only, such as animals and wind - instead of cable cars and helicopters.

  • S01E08 Iceland

    • March 15, 2009
    • BBC Two

Adventure programme in which Graham Bell and Ed Leigh attempt to cross the vast snowy wilderness of Iceland. Travelling by skidoo, the pair soon realise they are in for a challenging and gruelling expedition in a hot and cold world of geysers and glaciers.
