Jonathan und Mark treffen auf einem Rummelplatz die kleine Sarah. Das Mädchen hat seine Mutter verloren. Kurz darauf kommt es zu einem schrecklichen Unfall, bei dem Sarah stirbt. Verzweifelt und von Schuldgefühlen geplagt, trennt Mark sich von Jonathan und kündigt ihm die Freundschaft auf. Er zieht sich in eine Wüstenstadt zurück, wo er bei einer Familie wohnt. Dort erhält er eine lehrreiche Lektion.
Mark becomes deeply stricken with grief after believing he caused two tragedies involving young girls - one of them a victim of a car accident, the other trapped in a house fire - in a matter of hours. That, along with a litany of other complaints, prompts Mark to make a demand: That Jonathan erase everything that's happened and allow him to create his own vision of "Heaven on Earth."
