It was November 1838 when Circuit Court Judge Austin A. King bound over Joseph Smith, Hyrum Smith, Lyman Wight, Sidney Rigdon, Caleb Baldwin, and Alexander McRae to the county jail in Liberty, Clay County Missouri. They entered the jail on December 1, 1838 and would remain until April 6, 1839. Meanwhile, the saints were driven from the state by the authority of the Governor’s extermination order.
