First extermination and then extradition. Relations between the Mormons and the state of Missouri did not improve once the saints were driven out. There were deep animosities on both sides and both sides continued to pursue what they considered as justice. In the case of the Mormons it was redress and restitution. In the case of Missouri it was to extradite Joseph, in other words, take him back to Missouri to be dealt with.
