昭和のはじめ、日本初の女性専門に法律を教える学校ができます。そこへ集ったのは、当時の日本のどこにも収まれない、溢れ出す何かを抱えた女性たちでした。この物語の主人公・猪爪寅子も、そんな収まれない女性。周囲から“魔女部”と陰口を叩かれた女性だけの学び舎で、彼女たちは自らの道を切り開くため法律を学んでいきます。 昭和13年(1938)、卒業生から日本初の女性弁護士が誕生します。寅子もその一人として日本中から注目され憧れの的になります。しかし弁護士として意気揚々と世に出た彼女たちを待ち受けていたのは、戦争へと突き進んでいく日本でした。法学という社会に羽ばたく翼を得たはずが、それを使える場は急速に消えてしまいます。
