Diving deep into MAL and cataloging new and recurring mecha throughout the decades to debunk (or defend?) the widespread notion that the mecha genre is "dead." In all reality, no, it's far from a dead genre. At least by sales metrics and breaking into the mainstream it's actually never been more popular. But then WHY is there this notion it's a dead genre in the core community? Those who are actually claiming this are referring to a lack of NEW mecha series this decade that define a generation, instead of just more Gundam and a resurgence of attention on older mecha franchises. So let's take a dive, using MAL to quantitatively determine how "dead" the genre really is.
