Season 1

  • S01E01 Big Days and Celebrations

    • October 9, 2013
    • Channel 4

The Jewish calendar is stuffed full of feasts and festivals, so there's always something to celebrate. Probably the most important event for a young Jewish boy is the Bar Mitzvah. Celebrities recount their experiences of their own Bar Mitzvah or that of fellow classmates. There's also circumcision - the Bris. And Hanukkah - often called Jewish Christmas.

  • S01E02 Matchmaking

    • October 16, 2013
    • Channel 4

It's hard enough as it is to find true love. But for the Jewish way of life to be passed down, Jews should marry within the faith. And this has led to the very Jewish practice of matchmaking. Jews at Ten explores the concepts of 'marrying in', 'marrying out', converting and online dating. Boyfriends, girlfriends, wives and husbands may come and go, but there's one love that's unwavering, unconditional and sometimes unbearable - Jews at Ten takes a close look at the love of the Jewish mother.

  • S01E03 Grandmas and Grandpas

    • Channel 4

This time the talk is all about grandmas and granddads, bubbehs and zaydehs, and the foibles of the older generation. Old age seems to bring out the Jewish sense of humour, but a good Jew respects their elders, and looks after them too. But old or young, being Jewish means very different things to different people. So, just what makes Jews feel Jewish?

  • S01E04 Food

    • Channel 4

The final episode gets its teeth into the subject of food. And for observant Jews the food has to be kosher. But what does that mean exactly? There are many moments in the Jewish calendar where food is pivotal, and none more so than Friday night dinner, which comes with its own rituals and, of course, plenty of chicken soup.
