Gaku Horii (Masaharu Fukuyama), a chemist confined to a wheelchair, decides to kill his colleague Todoroki (Itsuji Itao), when he becomes engaged to Horii's ex-girlfriend Megumi Katagiri (Naho Toda). Using a remote-controlled bomb to kill Todoroki and arranging for Megumi to be accused of the crime, all seems like a perfect murder. Furuhata though finds a clue within Todoroki's actions to solve the case of the cold-hearted Horii.
事故により車椅子生活を送る化学者・堀井岳（福山雅治）は、研究所の同僚で学生時代からの親友・等々力（板尾創路）が堀井の元恋人・片桐恵（戸田菜穂）と婚約したことから等々力の殺害を決意する。彼は遠隔装置付きの爆弾で等々力を爆殺し、その容疑が恵に向くように仕組んだ。しかし、古畑は堀井の発言から彼が犯人であることを確信する。論理的で冷徹な堀井にてこずる古畑だが、堀井が唯一予測できなかった親友の行動が完全犯罪を解く手がかりとなる。
