Dr. Tann is a generous and kindhearted man whose charming bedside manner makes him a connector within the community. Dr. Tann was not only a character in the books, but also a real person. After Sims was cast, he learned that the real Dr. Tann lived in Independence and helped save the Ingalls family when they contracted malaria.
