تتزوج ميس من غالب بعد قصة حب، إلا أن زوجها يكتشف سرًا كانت تخفيه عنه، وبسبب شعورها بالذنب تجاهه، اتفقت معه على أن تكون جارية له مدى الحياة، حتى يعفو عنها وأملًا منها في استعادة حبه لها، متنازلة عن كرامتها وأنوثتها، كما يخوض العمل في قضايا الفساد والصراع الطبقي وانقلاب القيم في المجتمعات العربية.
