Als Gastgeber und Teilnehmer organisiert Higgins ein Schachturnier auf Robin Masters Anwesen. Der Major Domus ist in heller Aufregung, denn auch Präsident Manuel Ibenez hat sein Kommen angekündigt. Gemeinsam mit dessen Vertrautem Alan Johnson soll Magnum für die Sicherheit des Präsidenten sorgen. Kaum hat die Veranstaltung begonnen, taucht plötzlich ein gewisser Don Luis Mangueo auf und behauptet Higgins Halbbruder zu sein. Während Higgins entsetzt ist, stellt Magnum einige Nachforschungen an. Und glaubt bald, dass Don Luis einen Anschlag auf Präsident Ibenez plant.
Higgins is preparing for a prestigious chess tournament, and the arrival of an important visiting dignitary, the President of Costa Del Rosa, who will be attending it. There have been threats made on the President's life, and Magnum is asked to apprehend those responsible. But both Magnum and Higgins have even more to contend with when yet another of Higgins' illegitimate half-brothers, the flamboyant Don Luis Mongueo, the last of the royal line of Costa Del Rosa, makes an appearance on the scene. But with the plots to assassinate the President, Don Luis emerges as the prime suspect...
Higgins n'arrivera sûrement pas à résoudre seul les problèmes qu'il a sur les bras : organiser un tournoi d'échecs international, recevoir le président de la République de Costa de Rosa, s'occuper d'un demi-frère inattendu. C'est donc Magnum qui va découvrir que le demi-frère de Higgins a l'intention d'assassiner le Président Ibenez, que l'aide de camp du Président fait lui-même partie du complot, que le cher demi-frère n'a finalement pour but que de sauver la vie du Président...
Higgins si sta preparando per affrontare un prestigioso torneo di scacchi e per l'arrivo di un importante dignitario in visita, il Presidente di Costa Del Rosa, in visita per partecipare al torneo. Il Presidente ha ricevuto delle minacce e Magnum s'incarica di catturare il responsabile. Le cose si complicano quando un altro fratellastro di Higgins, Don Luis Mongueo, l'ultimo in linea di successione della casa reale di Costa Del Rosa, arriva sull'isola. Purtroppo le indagini indicano Don Luis come principale sospettato per le minacce rivolte al Presidente
