二人の僧侶

Marco Polo and his companions have received a personal letter and holy oil from the Pope, as promised to Kublai Khan. They depart Jerusalem, accompanied by two monks. They move north along the Mediterranean Sea and enter what is now modern-day Türkiye. As they approach the mountainous area, they learn that a group of Mamelukes, whom the caravan fears, are approaching. To avoid being attacked, Marco and his friends take refuge in the ruins of an ancient residence and hide out.

マルコ・ポーロ一行は、フビライとの約束であるローマ法王からの親書と聖油をもらい受け、二人の僧侶を連れてエルサレムを出発。地中海沿いを北上し、現在のトルコに入った。山岳地帯にさしかかろうとしたとき、隊商から恐れられていたマムルーク族の一団が迫っていることを知る。襲撃を避けるため、古代の住居跡に逃げ込み、息を潜めるマルコたち。しかし、おびえた僧侶がラクダにつまずき、ラクダが騒ぎ出してしまう。
