A new reality series, Meet the McDonaghs, will lay bare the lives of The Voice of Ireland runner up, Kelly McDonagh Mongan and her family. Cameras get up close and personal with the McDonaghs as they reveal the highs, lows, triumphs and disasters of traveller family life. The series follows teen bride Kathleen McDonagh’s wedding, Kelly’s attempt to get her career back on track and 17-year-old Antoinette’s determination to do things her way. Packed with light-hearted humour, fashion and family life, Meet The McDonaghs is not to be missed.
In the second installment of the series, the McDonagh sisters go to see celebrity model agent Celia Holman Lee to try their hand at modelling. Kelly and her mother go on a holy pilgrimage to Medjugorje – where it isn’t all peace and quiet as young Gerald misbehaves! And as 17-year-old Antoinette begins her leaving certificate, Kelly kicks starts her busy week of gigging around the country for Traveller Pride Week.
The final episode of the series marks the summer holidays for the McDonaghs. There’s the annual day out to Cahirmee horse fair, a visit by the family to Kelly in Galway and Kelly performs her biggest gig ever. Then as the summer draws to a close Antoinette gets to go where none of her siblings have – as she heads for a night out to the debs.
The series begins with 21-year old Kelly inviting the audience in to her new home in Galway. A new spot for her new trailer isn’t Kelly’s only news, as she reveals she’s expecting her second baby and still hoping for a big break in her singing career. We also pick with the rest of Kelly’s family in Fermoy as her youngest niece, is christened. Before they know it everyone is busy preparing for a family holiday to Appleby Horse Fair in northern England. The adventure begins as fourteen of the McDonaghs head off from Fermoy in two camper vans.
In the second episode the McDonaghs continue their family holiday to Appleby Horse Fair in England. The men get their chance to ride horses in the flashing lane and bathe them in the Eden River. While Antoinette heads out on a Saturday night to see what Appleby has to offer for younger people. Returning from her holidays, a heavily pregnant Kelly finally gets to realise a childhood dream, by recording her first CD. She hopes to be able to generate new interest in her music two years after she was on The Voice.
The final episode of the series sees the biggest moments for the family. Kelly gives birth to her second son and her younger sister, Antoinette, gets married in England. The McDonaghs travel to England and see Antoinette for the first time in eight weeks. It’s an emotional reunion, as they get ready for the big day. After the wedding the girls get back to work as Kelly launches her CD and her sister Kathleen gets a chance to take part in a fashion show in front of two thousand people.
