En janvier 2016, Joaquin Guzmán Lorea, dit El Chapo, le plus gros narcotrafiquant mexicain, est arrêté. Il est extradé, puis jugé en juillet 2019 aux Etats-Unis, où 90% de la drogue entre par le Mexique. Son procès se veut exemplaire de la lutte contre la drogue menée par les Américains. Pourtant, le cartel qu'il dirigeait a pu prospérer grâce à la complicité des gouvernements mexicains et américains.

In January 2016, Joaquin Guzmán Lorea, known as El Chapo, Mexico's biggest drug trafficker, was arrested. He was extradited, then tried in July 2019 in the United States, where 90% of the drugs enter through Mexico. His trial is intended to be an example of the fight against drugs led by the Americans. However, the cartel he led was able to prosper thanks to the complicity of the Mexican and American governments.
