Na ich území bol v minulosti vyhlásený prvý medzinárodný prírodný park v Európe a súčasne sa stali našim druhým najstarším a zároveň najmenším národným parkom. Na malej ploche ohurujú rozmanitosťou prírody a ich najznámejším symbolom je rieka Dunajec, zarezávajúca sa do skalných masívov. Vápencové podložie a veľká členitosť územia prinášajú značnú druhovú pestrosť. Pre svoju malebnosť a krásu sa stali inšpiráciou pre vznik množstva legiend.
The picturesque nature of the Pieniny Mountains has fascinated our ancestors. In the past, the first international nature park in Europe was declared on their territory, and at the same time they became our second oldest and smallest national park. In a small area, they amaze with the diversity of nature, and their most famous symbol is the Dunajec River, cutting into the rock massifs. The limestone bedrock and the great indentation of the territory bring a significant species diversity. Due to their picturesqueness and beauty, they became the inspiration for the creation of many legends.
