You know who Paul McCartney is. A Beatle. A Wing. Half a Fireman. A knight of the realm. Writer of "Hey Jude", "Band On The Run" and "Wonderful Christmastime". But more than anything he is still to many the impish, whimsical, cute one from The Beatles, adept at silly three minute love songs, stuck in the shadow of his dark, sarcastic and musically adventurous former writing partner. Of course, an oversimplification that McCartney has been at pains to correct. McCartney contains multitudes. And in 1980 he released a collection of wonky avant garde synth-pop showing the world how different he could be.
