The ancient forest that surrounds Portland's Bull Run water supply is off limits to logging after decades of controversy. But questions loom large over fire, climate change, and the risk of leaving a water supply untreated in one of the most pristine watersheds in the nation. Streaked Horned Lark ground-nesting species probably should be extinct by now except that, surprisingly, it has survived in the Portland area because of industrial development.
