The Williams County Jail and Sheriff's Department was built in 1869 to replace a small log jail which served the town for 25 years. Criminal Offenders were house here to await trial until the 1990s, and over the years the place gained a reputation for being haunted. A newspaper article was written in the mid 20th century about the paranormal experiences occurring inside the jail. They believed the ghost of an executed murderer from 1847 had come back to haunt the jail and those who operated it. As the years went on, more stories of ghosts and haunting started to pile up. In recent years, the jail sits almost empty (except for a few pieces of furniture and trinkets purchased at estate sales), but visitors claim to hear the voices of spirits calling out to them from within the cells. Shadow figures are seen, footsteps and doors slamming are heard, and some even believe the whole town of Bryan to have a special connection to the spirit world.
