Season 1

  • S01E01 Episode 1

    Paul first visits SANCCOB to meet Africa's endangered penguins and help release some back into the wild. Then to the Lilayi Elephant Nursery where a very excited Paul meets a group of baby elephants whose parents have been killed by poachers. Visiting animal rehabilitation centre Moholoholo in Kruger, Paul is introduced to eight-month-old lion cubs, brought to the centre at just a week old after being rejected by their mother. And finally Paul travels to Durban to CROW, the centre for rehabilitation of wildlife. Here they don’t just look after endangered species, they care for all kinds of animals who have been injured or orphaned in the wild from tortoises to baboons. Paul meets a very cute creature called Lily, a four-month-old blue dyker antelope and also a slightly less cute, grumpy porcupine called Mr Rattles.

    Paul visits the Moholoholo Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre, managed by Brian Jones where an 8 month old orphaned rhinoceros called Olive is being raised, whose mother was killed by poachers. He also visits a wildlife sanctuary called Na’ankuse where he meets the owner Marlice, who introduces him to some baby bush animals.

    Paul is back in Zambia and the Lilayi Elephant Nursery where last year he met an elephant calf called Nkala. Paul is amazed at how much he’s grown and how good he now looks and is happy that he has now become part of the herd.

    Paul is in Zambia and South Africa, where he bonds with a baby vulture, gives a warthog and a baby elephant a mud bath and bottle-feeds a baby giraffe.

    In episode one Paul arrives in Sabah, the Malaysian part of Borneo and finds the heat difficult to deal with. Paul heads straight for the orangutan rehabilitation centre in Sepilok where he meets Sue Sheward MBE, the founder of Orangutan Appeal UK, the largest fundraiser for the centre. Forest fires across Borneo are clearing the jungle for agriculture and many orangutans have either been killed in the fires or shot when they venture out to farmland to find food.

  • S03E02 Episode 2

    In episode two, Paul returns to the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre, where he meets five-year-old Boogie Boy. Two months earlier, Boogie Boy fell out of a tree and broke his arm and is now having physiotherapy. Paul helps distract Boogie while the ranger manipulates his arm. Later, Boogie has to go to the local human clinic for an x-ray to check the fracture has healed. It has, so Paul takes him back to the ropes where the other orangutans are learning to climb. No-one knows whether the fall will have affected his confidence.
