Over 100 times a year the Thames River Police race to the rescue of people in danger from London's iconic river. Unaware of the risks or attracted by its fast current and freezing temperatures - whether it's a cry for help or a serious suicide attempt, once in the water, the chances of survival are slim. This film follows the River Police doing all they can to keep people out danger and out of the Thames.
A hot summer day brings seasonal challenges to the police patrolling the Thames. With the London leg of the Red Bull international air race being staged over the river at Greenwich, it's up to the river police to ensure everything goes smoothly.
As the Thames runs right into the heart of London and is vulnerable to attack, the River Police must keep the capital safe from terrorists. With the city on high alert and swamped with summer tourists, the police are on the lookout for anyone suspicious. Spotting a terrorist from a tourist, however, is extremely difficult among many thousands of visitors.
The River Police's patch covers 250 miles of waterways around London, and these are a magnet for the criminal underworld - acting as an ideal hiding place for both people and evidence. After a violent robbery in London's Docklands, the specialist diving team must retrieve evidence thrown into the dock. And when a man evades arrest by swimming to an island in the middle of a lake, the river unit is called in to help out.
The specialist dive team is called to investigate a mysterious bundle taken from the boot of a car and thrown off Blackfriars Bridge.
