Starting out under the old Tree of Knowledge in Barcaldine certainly didn’t add any brilliance to the boys’ ability to get well and truly backtracked in this incredible ‘off-road trip’ through Outback Queensland and deep into the Northern Territory. Once again Roothy’s big thing was to try the back road he’s always figured might lead somewhere and stop in at all the places they’d usually drive past. So no pie shops or pubs for a while but Glen Hadden was happy anyway because he finally got to the Qantas museum in Longreach instead! Somehow they managed to get out of there without bolting a Rolls Royce turbine to the back of Kent Hindley’s ute and before long they were lost up a mining road that wasn’t on the map.
