晩年の魯山人のもとを、出版社の若手記者・ヨネ子が訪ねてくる。魯山人の傍若無人な態度に戸惑うヨネ子だが、回顧録を口述筆記するため、たびたび魯山人の住まいを訪ねることになる。 吉田茂、イサム・ノグチ、ロックフェラー三世… 多くの有名人たちとの交流を目の当たりにする中、ヨネ子は、その物言いとは裏腹に、料理を美と捉え、一切の妥協を排し、究めようとする魯山人の姿勢に気づいていく。
