The case of Marc Dutroux is one of the most shocking in Belgian history. While the crimes themselves are stomach churning, the inadequacy of the Belgian justice system could also be considered scandalous in the wake of an investigation which found Dutroux guilty of kidnap, torture and sexual abuse of children as young as eight years old.
