Stahlhelm M1916 (World War I)

For Germany, it’s early war helmet was the leather spike helmet called the pickelhaube which was expensive, offered little protection and was unsuitable for the trenches. In 1916 the pickelhaube was replaced by the more practical steel helmet called the Stahlhelm. The Germans were the first to test a steel helmet but the slow to introduce it on the battlefield.
