Ende Juni wird in ganz Skandinavien mit Festen und Feuern der längste Tag des Jahres gefeiert - die Nacht, in der die Sonne nicht untergeht. Nach Monaten der Dunkelheit erhellt die Mitternachtssonne den Norden Europas. Der erzählte Film, reist durch Finnland, Norwegen und Schweden, begegnet Menschen, die sich auf unterschiedliche Weisen mit Licht befassen, bis schließlich die Sonne im Winter wieder für eine lange Zeit hinter dem Horizont verschwindet.
