Once there, they divide into two tribes (Pagong, Tagi) and go head-to-head in an Immunity Challenge called “Quest for Fire.” The contest requires the tribes to light a series of torches in the water while holding onto a raft. The losing team attends Tribal Council and votes out one of its members.

    Generational difficulties arise, as do conflicts over varying work ethics, as the castaways try to adapt to life on the island. “Buggin' Out,” the Immunity Challenge, involves eating live beetle larvae.     The castaways participate in “Fast Fire” to earn Immunity, which requires them to build a fire on the beach. “Bamboozled” is the Reward Challenge, in which the seven tribemates must race on bamboo structures over the ocean. The winner gets to make two calls on a cell phone. One is to order a slice of pizza that's delivered by helicopter; the other is a call home.

    The Immunity Challenge is “Walk the Plank,” in which the players must balance on a narrow board over the ocean. For a Reward, the castaways answer questions about survival on the island. The winner spends a night in luxury aboard a yacht.

  • S01E12 Death of an Alliance

    The number of contestants is whittled down to the Final Four after the players compete in “Witch Hunt” for Immunity. The castaways are each given a video camera and must search through the jungle for hand-carved masks and answer questions on the back of them. For a Reward---a night at a bar with a hot meal and a cold beer---the tribemates see who can collect the most mud on their bodies and transfer it to a designated area in a given time.

    The Final Four players endure two Immunity Challenges and three Tribal Councils before the $1 million winner is chosen by the Jury. The first Immunity Challenge is “Fallen Comrades,” in which the four finalists answer personal questions about their fellow castaways. The second Challenge is one of endurance, as the remaining three contestants hold onto an idol. Later, the Final Tribal Council is convened and the winner is selected.

Season 2

  • S02E01 Stranded

    Sixteen contestants arrive on a military airplane in Queensland and immediately form two tribes---Kucha and Ogakor. After a five-mile hike to their respective camps, the tribes compete on an obstacle course for Immunity and waterproof matches. The losing tribe then attends Tribal Council and votes out its first member.

  • S02E02 Suspicion

    Jerri accuses Kel of eating contraband beef jerky, which he denies. In the “Butch Cassidy” Reward Challenge, the players jump off a cliff into a pool of water, swim to a floating crate and carry it ashore to win blankets. “Tucker'd Out” is the Immunity Challenge. The tribemates eat aboriginal foods (“bush tucker”), such as cow brains, grubs, grasshoppers and mangrove worms. However, Kimmi, a vegetarian, refuses to join in.

  • S02E03 Trust No One

    The players try to win fishing tackle in the “Water Torture” Reward Challenge, which requires them to carry jugs of water over a narrow plank and fill buckets being held by a tribesmate on a cane pole. “Lock Step” is the Immunity Challenge. The castaways are tied together with rope and traverse over and under obstacles until they reach the finish line.

  • S02E04 The Killing Fields

    Michael catches and butchers a wild pig, which doesn't make vegetarian Kimmi too happy. In the “Mastermind” Reward Challenge, the players unscramble a giant puzzle map to reveal the location of the prize, which is three chickens and a rooster. “True or Falls” is the Immunity Challenge, in which the castaways are quizzed about the Australian environment.

  • S02E05 The Gloves Come Off

    Wildfires threaten the camps, and Kimmi and Alicia get into a heated, fingerpointing argument. In “Triage,” the players compete for comfort items, such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo and spices. To win, they race to a mock first-aid tent carrying teammates on a stretcher. The Immunity Challenge is “The Maze.” Players enter a giant maze and collect numbered medallions in order.

  • S02E06 Trial by Fire

    Michael suffers severe burns on his hands after he passes out and falls into the campfire. Medics attend to his wounds and he's carried away by helicopter to receive further treatment. The teams compete for a Reward of soda and chips in “Blind Leading the Blind.” The teammates, except for one on each tribe, are blindfolded while the sighted spotter guides them through various tasks.

    The Ogakor and Kucha tribes merge to form Barramundi and then set up camp in a new location. The Immunity Challenge, “Perch,” requires endurance as the players must stand on a wooden pillar in the river. The last person standing wins Individual Immunity.

    The players try to win a dinner that includes salmon, chicken and shrimp in the “Return to Sender” Reward Challenge, which requires the castaways to throw a boomerang into a target. For Immunity, it's a mental activity called “Don't Fence Me In.” Ropes are attached to wooden posts and set up in rows of 10. The players link posts together using the ropes. The player who finishes off more squares wins Immunity.

  • S02E10 Honeymoon or Not?

    The winner of the Reward Challenge chooses one person to enjoy a trip to the Great Barrier Reef to snorkel and partake in a feast. The Immunity Challenge unfolds in three segments: “Know Your Ropes”; “Rock the Boat”; and “Sinking Ship”. In each part, the players try to make their opponents lose their balance and fall into the water.

  • S02E11 Let's Make a Deal

    The players are given money to participate in the “Survivor Auction,” in which they can buy various food items. The Immunity Challenge is “Fire and Rain.” The castaways must light a fire in a pan and then raise it to ignite a fuse on an overhead bar. The first to do so wins Immunity.

  • S02E12 No Longer Just a Game

    A torrential storm produces flash floods that destroy the campsite and carry away the last can of rice. One player wins a rope-course Challenge and receives a horseback ride to a ranch to enjoy a beef-stew dinner, a night's sleep on a cot and a hot breakfast. The Immunity Challenge is “Blue Plate Special.” Each player has three plates with his or her name on it hung from a tree. Using a slingshot, players try to break opponents' plates. The person with the last unbroken plate wins.

  • S02E13 Enough Is Enough

    The players communicate with loved ones back home in the “Outback Internet Café,” and one castaway wins a 30-minute online chat. “Fugitives,” the Immunity Challenge, takes place at night. After host Jeff Probst tells the castaways a story, the tribemates' hands and feet are shackled. They must then run to various spots and answer questions. A correct answer wins them a key. The first one to return to Probst unshackled and with all of the keys wins Immunity.

  • S02E14 The Final Four

    The Final Four players compete for Reward in the “Survivor Pentathlon,” which incorporates elements from past challenges, such as walking a plank, solving a puzzle, and being blindfolded and shackled. The winner gets a hot meal, a hot shower and a new car. Each person also receives a care package from home. For Immunity, the castaways must match pairs of items. At Tribal Council, the number of players is whittled down to three.

  • S02E15 The Most Deserving

    The Final Three players compete in their last Immunity Challenge, “Fallen Comrades,” in which they must answer personal questions about former tribemates. When only two remain, they are questioned by the Jury, which chooses the winner.

    The 16 contestants reunite to discuss their experiences in the Outback. Bryant Gumbel is the host.

Season 3

  • S03E01 Question of Trust

    The 16 players, divided into two tribes (Samburu and Boran), arrive at the Shaba National Reserve in Kenya and set up camp. For Immunity, the tribes must each drag a heavy cart over rough terrain while lighting a series of torches.

  • S03E02 Who's Zooming Whom?

    The tribes play for blankets, water containers and food in the “Stairway to the Stars” Reward Challenge. Teams must carry five logs through a series of obstacles to a tower and build a staircase. For Immunity, each player must drink a shot glass of cow's blood mixed with milk. If a player fails, his or her tribe loses.

  • S03E03 The Gods Are Angry

    The tribes try to win 100 gallons of fresh water by rolling a giant boulder through an obstacle course. For Immunity, the teams must create a distress signal that can be clearly seen from the air.

  • S03E04 The Young and Untrusted

    The tribes compete for cooking supplies in the “Caught in the Web” Reward Challenge. Players must climb a web of rope and retrieve 12 baskets hanging from the web to win. For Immunity, the teams must pick up and move a camp with a hut 200 yards and then re-create the camp exactly as it was before.

  • S03E05 The Twist

    Three tribe members from each team are surprised to learn that they are switching sides and joining their rival tribes. After the switch, the teams compete for Reward by leading 20 goats from a starting pen to a destination pen 100 yards away. For Immunity, teams gather 20 puzzle pieces and put them together to complete the puzzle.

  • S03E06 I'd Never Do It to You

    The teams play for a full food buffet by answering a series of questions about Africa. For Immunity, the players use bows and arrows to hit five targets.

  • S03E07 Will There Be a Feast Tonight?

    The two teams merge and form the Moto Maji tribe. For Immunity, the players have one of their wrists attached to a rope that is connected to a bucket of water located directly above their heads. If they drop their arm, the water pours down on them. The last player standing wins.

    The players try to win two goats that can be traded in an African village for goods by catapulting nine items into a basket located on top of a tower. “Box Your Mind” is the Immunity Challenge, in which players must memorize items located inside a barrel.

  • S03E10 Dinner, Movie, and a Betrayal

    The players try to win a night at the movies to see “Out of Africa” by successfully completing an obstacle course. For Immunity, players attempt to start a fire using a magnifying glass.

  • S03E11 We Are Family

    The players are each given money to spend at a food auction. For Immunity, the players must answer correctly five questions about African folklore.

  • S03E12 The Big Adventure

    The players watch videos of their families, then try to guess the answers their family members gave to personal questions. The winner receives a Reward that includes an African safari. For Immunity, the players throw sticks to break pots with opposing players' names on them. The last person with an unbroken pot wins Immunity.

  • S03E13 Truth Be Told

    The castaways play “Swahili Scramble” for Reward. They each must find nine Swahili words hidden in letters on a board and then use them to solve a clue. The Reward includes the chance to deliver medical supplies to an AIDS hospital. The “Second Chance” Immunity Challenge combines elements from previous challenges, including an obstacle course and using bows and arrows.

  • S03E14 The Final Four: No Regrets

    The Final Four players answer questions about the 12 ousted castaways in the first of two Immunity Challenges. The second Immunity Challenge is an endurance battle in which the three remaining players place a hand on a wooden idol and their feet on stumps. The last person standing wins Immunity. Later, the seven jury members question the Final Two players and vote for the winner.

Season 4

  • S04E01 Back to the Beach

    Sixteen castaways are marooned on Nuku Hiva, a volcanic island in the South Pacific. The members of the two tribes, Maraamu and Rotu, paddle ashore in separate life rafts and set up camp. For Immunity, each team lights a series of torches in the ocean from a canoe. The losing team goes to Tribal Council and votes out the first person.

  • S04E02 Nacho Momma

    The castaways play for fishing gear in the “Do or Dive” Reward Challenge, in which members from each team must dive beneath the water and take heavy stones from a sunken boat. The first team to get their boat afloat and to land wins. For Immunity, each tribe member must eat a smelly Marquesan delicacy called fafaru that consists of raw fish, fish bones, crab legs and lobster legs marinated in sea water and left in the sun for three days.

  • S04E03 No Pain, No Gain

    Each tribe builds a raft using bamboo and paddles it through a water course to pick up supplies. The first team to complete the course wins a choice of either rice or a collection of blankets, pillows and lanterns. For Immunity, the players maneuver a coconut through a maze that is built inside an oversized wooden box.

  • S04E04 The Winds Twist

    The players assemble for what they believe is a Reward Challenge and are shocked to learn that the tribes are being switched around. For Immunity, the newly formed tribes must unscramble a woven tapestry of interlaced pieces to reveal a design.

  • S04E05 The End of Innocence

    One tribe wins the right to take the opposing camp's food and supplies after completing a Reward Challenge that requires the teams to collect segments of four deconstructed tikis and put them together. For Immunity, the tribes must create a distress signal that can be easily seen from a rescue boat. The best signal wins.

  • S04E06 The Underdogs

    The tribes try to win a picnic in the “Jungle Relay” Reward Challenge, in which teams use a canoe to retrieve a flag in the water after racing through the jungle to find two hidden paddles. For Immunity, each tribe forms a human chain to collect numbered ladder rungs inside a maze. The first team to find all of their rungs and use them to climb a tower wins.

  • S04E07 True Lies

    The two teams merge to form the Soliantu tribe. The castaways play for Individual Immunity for the first time in the “Sea Legs” Challenge, which requires players to stand on a floating platform in choppy water. The last person standing wins.

  • S04E08 Jury's Out

    The players try to win a Reward that includes a giant chocolate bar and a scuba-diving trip to an exotic coral reef by constructing a kite and being the first one to fly it 300 feet in the air. For Immunity, the castaways must answer questions about the Marquesas Islands.

  • S04E10 Two Peas in a Pod

    The eight players divide into four teams of two to compete for a Marquesan feast that includes a helicopter trip over the islands and a horseback ride to a beautiful locale where the lavish banquet is held. To win, the pairs must be the first duo to fill a 3-ft.-tall bamboo shoot with coconut juice. The Immunity Challenge is “High Stepping,” in which players attempt to knock each other off of stilts.

  • S04E11 The Princess

    The Reward Challenge is “Rock Bottom,” in which players jump off of a floating deck to retrieve shells from the ocean. The winner gets a day on a private cruise ship that includes a hot shower, clean clothes and a hot meal. For Immunity it is “Virtues of Fire,” a Challenge that requires the castaways to build a fire that will ignite a wooden tower.

  • S04E12 Marquesan Vacation

    The six remaining players are each reunited with a loved one, who then tries to win a day on the island by outwitting the other friends and family members on a giant puzzle board. In the “Sands of Time” Immunity Challenge, the castaways use slingshots to break tiles.

  • S04E13 A Tale of Two Cities

    The five remaining castaways play for a car in the Reward Challenge, which consists of elements from past contests, such as constructing a tiki, filling a bamboo tube with coconut juice, walking 10 feet on stilts and using a slingshot to break tiles. For Immunity, the players answer questions about Marquesan folklore.

  • S04E14 The Sole Survivor

    The Final Four castaways answer questions about the 12 previously ousted players to win Immunity. Following the contest, one person is voted out. Next, the three remaining players again vie for Immunity in an endurance Challenge that requires them to stand on two logs while leaning against an idol. The last person standing wins the Final Immunity and then votes out one person. The jury then votes for the $1 million first-place-prize winner.
