Charles returns to the Walter's farm where he is reunited with a relieved Jenny and Agnes. Hubert discovers that the cows have brucellosis and tends to them whilst Jenny and Charles head up river to locate a vet called Bill Sheridan. They meet Bill and his partner Alice and the following day Charles and Bill head back to the farm. Before they return to Jenny and Alice they see a car travelling along a road. Charles jumps to the conclusion that Greg could have been the driver. Jenny is excited when she hears the news and sets off with Bill to locate him. Before they leave they all agree to rendezvous at Highley train station for what Charles hopes will be market day...
Alla fattoria dei Walter, Edith sta dissuadendo i suoi figli, Owen e Steve, perché vogliono uscire per cercare Charles. Dopo che il figlio Tom è partito senza più tornare, Edith teme di rimanere sola. Ormai è certa che anche Charles non tornerà più e non sa che invece l'uomo si trova poco distante da lì. Dopo avere seguito la ferrovia, Charles ha deciso di fare una sosta alla stazione di Highley per riposarsi. Dai Walter, Jenny è sempre più irrequieta e non riesce a capire perché Agnes si dia tanto da fare per una fattoria che non potrà mai funzionare, visto che i due figli non vedono l'ora di andarsene e la madre da sola non ce la potrà mai fare. E' convinta che aspettare Tom sia una perdita di tempo e che invece dovrebbero partire per raggiungere Greg. Agnes non è d'accordo e ribatte che al mondo ci sono cose più importanti di Greg, ad esempio la sua gente in Norvegia che sta morendo di fame.
