Der erste Teil der vierteiligen Dokumentationsreihe stellt ein Archäologenteam und ihre Entdeckungen vor. Mit der Bibelarchäologie verfolgen die Forscher einen neuen Ansatz. Sie untersuchen die Geschichte Abrahams und seiner Söhne. Dabei gehen sie der Frage nach, ob Abraham, Isaak und die anderen Urväter beziehungsweise Patriarchen tatsächlich gelebt haben. Sie fragen, wie der Begriff "Patriarch" entstand und was darunter zu verstehen ist. Denn die Geschichte der Ahnen ist der erste Pfeiler des Judentums.

In Megiddo and other archeological sites of the Levant, the investigation begins. How has archaeology dealt with the great biblical accounts in the past? What does it tell us today about Abraham, his son, and his grandson? Did they really exist? In what period? Why did the authors of this account as recorded in Genesis tell their tale in this way? The film ends with the destiny of the Bible's patriarchal figures: offering the people who wrote these texts a family, a genealogy. The first "pillar" of what was to become Judaism.
La série "La Bible Dévoilée" suit l'ordre établi par les livres de l'Ancien Testament. Le premier livre raconte l’arrivée sur la Terre de Canaan des Patriarches : Abraham, Isaac et Jacob. Israël Finkelstein et Neil A. Silberman présentent leur méthode de travail : partir des écrits bibliques et tenter d'y trouver des indices qui pourront être corroborés par des éléments tangibles, résultats, le plus souvent, de fouilles archéologiques. Très vite, des failles historiques majeures apparaissent dans le texte au niveau des datations. Ces anachronismes vont permettre de découvrir les véritables écrivains de ce texte et de déterminer une raison plausible de cette rédaction : établir une généalogie de la famille, le premier pilier du Judaïsme.
