The Channel Tunnel has been open for 25 years. Every day it transports thousands of people and millions of products between England and France, with its trains travelling further under water than in any other tunnel in the world. But while building the tunnel was an epic achievement, keeping this vital artery flowing is a constant, never-ending challenge. We meet the people who keep the busiest railway system in the world going, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Across the series we’ll see what it takes to keep the Calais and Folkestone terminals flowing and how Anglo-French ingenuity overcomes all kinds of problems at both ends. We’ll see parts of the tunnel we don’t normally see as we get deep down and dirty with the tunnel maintenance teams, seeing and hearing exactly what goes on behind the scenes to keep the power running and the trains moving. And we’ll get a colourful insight into the people, the products and the pets that use the tunnel, as we follow their journeys from end to end through this extraordinary, non-stop wonder of the modern world.
