Darkest Hour (2017) is an interesting movie. It messes up almost everything pretty badly to the point of being irksome, but it is also somewhat endearing. Churchill was quite a character, but they took some liberties that are a little too much to handle. But at least I get to talk about the guy - He was a bit of a historian afterall, so consider this a “historians who changed history” episode as well. ------------------------------------------------------------ references: British War Cabinet Conclusions: http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/browse/r/h/C9025075/prev/C9025075 YouTube channel devoted to recordings of Churchill’s speeches https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC0fzzbr4smERslSB1G2Jdbg Winston Churchill, Their Finest Hour (1949; New York: Rosetta Books, 2002) ebook, 87-150/788. https://amzn.to/2u8xH8v Paul Johnson, Churchill (New York: Penguin Group, 2009). https://amzn.to/2N2LowK http://www.historyvshollywood.com/reelfaces/darkest-hour/ http://www.slate.com/blogs/browbeat/2017/12/08/what_s_fact_and_what_s_fiction_in_darkest_hour.html http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/article/2018/feb/26/fact-check-darkest-hour-movie-winston-churchill/ https://www.express.co.uk/entertainment/films/903832/Darkest-Hour-historical-accuracy-Winston-Churchill-grandson-Nicholas-Soames-Gary-Oldman http://time.com/5031642/winston-churchill-darkest-hour/ https://www.cinemablend.com/news/1731500/did-that-pivotal-darkest-hour-scene-really-happen-joe-wright-fills-us-in ------------------------------------------------------------ SUBSCRIBE FOR MORE VIDEOS: http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=CynicalCypher88 Support the channel through Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/CynicalHistorian or pick up some merchandise at SpreadShirt: https://shop.spreadshirt.com/cynicalhistorian LET'S CONNECT: https://www.facebook.com/cynicalcypher88 https://twitter.com/Cynical_History -------------------------------------------------
