견습 소믈리에인 시노하라 미야비는 어느 날 진상 떠는 손님이 와인을 걸고 넘어지며 난리를 피우자 쩔쩔매는데 마침 자리에 있던 맥주 회사 직원(?)인 칸자키 시즈쿠가 그 와인을 놀라운 솜씨로 디켄팅해 와인을 깨워 제대로 된 풍미가 퍼지게 하는 것을 보게 된다.
칸자키 시즈쿠는 바로 얼마전 작고한 저명 와인평론가 칸자키 유타카의 친아들이었지만 부친과 사이가 좋지 않아 연락을 끊고 지내고 있었다. 칸자키 시즈쿠는 변호사를 통해 부친의 유언장을 받아들게 되지만, 유언장의 내용이 황당했다.
와인이란 무엇인가에 대해 자신(칸자키 유타카)이 내린 답을 표현할 수 있는 12개병의 와인(12사도)과 그 정점에 있는 1병의 와인(신의 물방울) 각각에 대해 자신의 표현을 남겼으며, 이것을 통해 이 와인들의 정체를 맞춰야 유산을 물려준다는 것.
그리고 이 일에 불과 1주일전 양자로 입적된 젊은 와인 평론가 토미네 잇세가 끼어들어 칸자키 시즈쿠와 와인 대결(12사도와 신의 물방울 찾기)을 펼치게 된다.
