小小伍長狄奇，因一次拯救大元帥蒙大同，被連升七級成為旅長，負責管理昇威鎮。其他三位盤踞昇威鎮外圍的軍閥，氣得眼裏噴火，出暗招對付，狄奇幸得三位出生入死的軍隊隊員馬炭、羅義、冬來兄弟同心抗敵，還威迫利誘敵對的武器專才顧落蘆加盟，五人於昇威鎮才能站穩陣腳。可是，狄奇三位太太葉天嬌、艾妞及章沅婉在家中爭寵，沅婉更是革命黨員，狄奇明知其身份仍把她留在身邊，再加上軍營中有人野心勃勃，使昇威鎮危機四伏……
