During the time of its operation, the company offered pest removal services for a wide range of common household pests such as termites, rats, and ants, to name a few. Those who contracted Boyd’s for pest removal often regarded them as the “best in the business”, and had exceptional customer retention during the nearly two decades of their operation. Starting from around the late 1980s and early 1990s, rumors of the company dealing with “unusual” types of pests began to propagate in the communities Boyd’s operates out of, although these were largely unsubstantiated and no proof was ever found supporting such claims. However, a number of customers did notice that employees of Boyd’s carried more equipment than they believed was necessary for a pest removal company, and also observed employees performing inspection routines seemingly unrelated to what they were originally called for. When pressed on all of these, employees simply stated it was “standard operating procedure” to ensure the best possible customer service, and would not elaborate further on the matter.
