Maxwell gibt eine Dinner-Party, zu der wichtige Leute eingeladen sind – und bei der Fran zum ersten Mal offiziell als Maxwells Verlobte auftritt. Doch ihre Euphorie darüber weicht rasch tiefer Enttäuschung, als Fran feststellt, dass die dort anwesenden Damen der feinen Gesellschaft sich über ihre Herkunft lustig machen. Doch weil sich Maxwell für sein nächstes Projekt von den Anwesenden finanzielle Unterstützung erhofft, lässt die Nanny sich nichts anmerken. In ihrer Verzweiflung läuft sie schließlich weinend in den nahen Preston-Collier-Park und schüttet einem vermeintlichen Penner ihr Herz aus. Auf Grund ihrer Gutmütigkeit bietet sie ihm an, bei ihr daheim vorbeizukommen, wenn er hungrig ist. Als der Mann kurz darauf tatsächlich im Hause Sheffield eintrifft, wird offenbar, wen Fran da eingeladen hat: Preston Collier persönlich, einen der reichsten Männer New Yorks. Und ihm hat Frans Großzügigkeit sehr gefallen...
Maxwell decides to shop for a new ring for Fran, and Sylvia asks them to go to their uncle Stanley's, because he is family. But once there, they change their minds and go to Cartier instead. Fran gets an astonishing ring and they are mentioned in the social column (and Fran's name is mistyped Fran Fone...). But Fran starts to see that she might not be very well accepted among Maxwell's rich friends: she, Sylvia and Val are mistaken by ordinary people at a fancy clothe store, and at a dinner party Fran finds out that everybody is making fun of her behind her back. Hurt and afraid she might not be good enough for Maxwell, she goes to the park and meets a homeless man. She offers him chicken and opens her heart for him, giving him her address and offering him to drop by at anytime he feels hungry.
