Sky in the Window (2 hrs)

Molly and David Beaton, a young and courageous couple, whose love for each other helps them to build a life for themselves in a newly opened wilderness in the 1870s, are held hostage by Indians in "Sky in the Window," a première presentation of "The Young Pioneers." Linda Purl and Roger Kern star as Molly and David Beaton, the young wife and her husband who strike out for an unknown destiny in a newly opened territory. In addition to the young Beatons, played by Linda Purl and Roger Kern, the sparse prairie population includes the Peters family. Mr. Peters dreams of discovering gold in the Black Hills, leaving the management of 10-year-old Flora and eight-year-old Charlie to his older daughter, Nettie. Nettie longs for the love of handsome Dan Gray, but Dan is a loner, at least in the beginning. Guest starring in the initial episode, "Sky in the Window," are David Huddleston as Juniper Jones, a wandering loner who is a friend both to the Indians and the settlers: A Martinez as Circling Hawk, and Cynthia Avila as Sweet Water, his wife, Guillermo San Juan appears as Spotted Calf. In the premiere, Molly and David are held hostage in their barn by Indians (Circling Hawk and Fool's Crow), who have brought the injured Spotted Calf for shelter. At first, the Indians refuse Molly's help, but finally allow her to treat Spotted Calf, with whom she establishes an understanding. Later, Molly and David are asked to give refuge to Sweet Water, who is wounded and expecting the birth of her child. Her presence endangers Molly's and David's safety from bounty hunters in search of Indians.
