Doch irgendwie wirkt er verändert: Er trägt einen Schnurrbart und viel freundlicher als sonst. Thomas ist total verwirrt. Doch dann erfährt er, dass sein Passagier der Bruder des dicken Kontrolleurs ist.
It's the Fat Controller's birthday, and Thomas is sent to Maithwaite early to collect the Fat Controller and Lady Hatt to take them to the party. W dniu urodzin zawiadowcy, Tomek ma go zabrać na jego przyjęcie. Zawiadowca jednak dziwnie się zachowuje. Ma wąsy i chętnie bawi się z dziećmi.
