  • S01E01 Episode 1: Establishing Context

    • February 7, 2016
    • YouTube

In this series I'll be breaking down the theories and explanations surrounding everyone's favorite gay conspiracy. This first video establishes the background context for the TJLC reading of the show by talking about the original Holmes canon, The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes, what was happening at the BBC at the time Sherlock was commissioned, and Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat's personal history with Holmes/Watson. I really hope you enjoy it!

  • S01E02 Episode 2: The Creators Lie... A Lot

    • February 13, 2016
    • YouTube

Hello everyone and welcome back to another episode of TJLC Explained. One of the most frequent arguments made against johnlock, even by people who /want/ to believe, is that the creators and actors have said it isn't going to happen. But they lie. A lot. This video walks through why you shouldn't worry the next time someone involved with Sherlock makes a comment that appears to contradict johnlock.

  • S01E03 Episode 3: The Unaired Pilot

    • February 14, 2016
    • YouTube

As a Valentine's Day Special I thought I'd surprise you all and cover Sherlock's Unaired Pilot a week early! It's a bit longer than the other videos, but I want to cover the episodes in depth. I hope you like it! And no, I didn't add that music to the rooftop scene. That was actually there. I can't believe it either.

  • S01E04 Episode 4: The Phone/Heart Metaphor

    • February 21, 2016
    • YouTube

Today's episode of TJLC Explained introduces the Phone/Heart metaphor, one of the most prevalent symbols in TJLC analysis. In this video I'll discuss the ways this metaphor tends to be used and explaining what the most important uses mean for TJLC. I hope you enjoy the video!

  • S01E05 Episode 5: Food=Sex (and Other Forms of Intimacy)

    • February 23, 2016
    • YouTube

In this episode of TJLC Explained I cover the food=sex metaphor on BBC Sherlock, although broadly speaking it's more accurate to say food equates to intimacy. We'll recap it's inclusion in the pilot and follow some of the most notable uses in the series, including Irene insistently asking Sherlock to have dinner with him, and who Sherlock is actually having dinner with. Thank you all for your continued support of this project, I hope you enjoy the video!

  • S01E06 Episode 6: A Study in Pink

    • February 29, 2016
    • YouTube

Welcome back to TJLC Explained! In this week's episode I explain how A Study in Pink creates the foundation for an incredible love story and how the changes between this version and the unaired pilot version give the romance sufficient depth and time to unfold. I hope you enjoy the video!

  • S01E07 Episode 7: The Drink Code

    • March 9, 2016
    • YouTube

Welcome back to another episode of TJLC Explained! In this video I talk about another popular fan theory: The Drink Code. The basic gist of the drink code is that whenever a character drinks something, or talks about drinking something, that specific drink was chosen for a symbollic reason. I'll walk through the major categories and give some of the important examples.

  • S01E08 Episode 8: The Blind Baker

    • March 12, 2016

Welcome back to another episode of TJLC Explained! In this video I talk about everyone's least favorite episode, The Blind Banker. Hopefully I make a good case for why it's less terrible than you think.

  • S01E09 Episode 9: Sometimes A Meat Dagger Is Exactly What You Think It Is

    • March 21, 2016
    • YouTube

Hi everyone! This week's episode of TJLC Explained talks about sexual imagery and innuendos in BBC Sherlock. There are a lot of them. This is probably my favorite one so far, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

  • S01E10 Episode 10: The Great Game

    • March 29, 2016
    • YouTube

This week I talk about the series one finale of Sherlock: The Great Game. This episode is where a reasonable reading of the show as an ambiguous friendship ends and with the final scene, the tension and dynamic of the next two series is all set up. I hope you enjoy the video and thank you all so much for your patience.

  • S01E11 Episode 11: The Elephant in the Room

    • April 3, 2016
    • YouTube

    • April 8, 2016
    • YouTube

  • S01E13 Episode 13: A Scandal in Belgravia

    • April 19, 2016
    • YouTube

AND THEN IT WAS TIME.... A Scandal in Belgravia causes a lot of people to have doubts about TJLC. It absolutely shouldn't. What on the surface appears to be a forced straight romance is actually one of the best episodes to prove TJLC as their attempt. Why else would they steal the plot of The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes for their Irene Adler episode? I hope this episode helps put some of your fears to rest, making it did for some of mine.

  • S01E14 Episode 14: A Hat of Someone Else's Choosing

    • April 28, 2016
    • YouTube

This episode I discuss the history and symbolism of Sherlock's iconic deer stalker, and how it relates to false public perceptions. This is one of my favorite topics, so I hope you like the video! (also tried a new sound configuration this time, I have almost everything figured out but the background noise, slow progress)

  • S01E15 Episode 15: Molly Hooper

    • May 15, 2016
    • YouTube

This video discusses Molly Hooper and her role on the show (and by extension her role in TJLC). Also I finally made a title sequence! I hope this compromise makes everyone happy in re: cheery music!

  • S01E16 Episode 16:The Hounds of Baskerville

    • May 26, 2016
    • YouTube

Already in the process of editing the next one so it should only be a day or two! In the mean time I hope you enjoy this video on The Hound of Baskerville! We'll be talking about the true source of Sherlock's fear in this episode (hint, it's not the hound), the symbolism of Bluebell the luminous rabbit, the Henry/John parallel, and of course, conspiracy theories!

  • S01E17 Episode 17: Mirror, Mirror (part 1)

    • May 29, 2016

  • S01E19 Episode 19: The Reichenbach Fall

    • June 14, 2016
    • YouTube

Sorry again to have such a downer video lined up right now after recent events. Hopefully seeing that there's still hope after something tragic happens in this story will help you find hope in the real world to. We do have reasons to believe. Also I'm sorry for the strange sound quality fluctuations on this video (worse than usual) there was a really loud noise in the background that i tried to cancel out but i think I just made things worse. Thank you as always to my wonderful girlfriend Stacey for being here for me through all of this, I really couldn't do any of it without you.

  • S01E30 Episode 30 : Romantic Tropes and Narratives

    • September 2, 2016
    • YouTube

In Today's episode of TJLC Explained I talk about some of the common romantic devices that have made their way onto Sherlock. Spoilers: there are A Lot of them. Maybe I should try a different approach...

  • S01E31 Episode 31 : If It's Not Gay, Then Why ?

    • September 9, 2016

    • September 14, 2016

If you've found yourself thinking something like the above sentence, this is the video for you! Whether you don't know about what was happening in the lead up to TAB or want to get a little nostalgic about that very exciting time in the TJLC community, this video will give you everything you need to know about the Gay Victorian Fever Dream theory.

  • S01E37 Episode 37 : The Abominable Bride (part 1)

    • November 3, 2016
    • YouTube

It's the episode we've all been waiting for! And by we I mostly mean me. The Abominable Bride is my favorite episode of BBC Sherlock and there's a lot going on here, so I've split it up into multiple parts. This first part covers right up to the beginning of the green house scene. I have to leave you something to look forward to for next time right?

  • S01E38 Episode 38 : The Heart of the Conspiracy

    • November 7, 2016
    • YouTube

The name "The Johnlock Conspiracy" might have started as a joke, but it's surprisingly approriate. The writers have been dropping hints that there's a conspiracy in the works. TJLC stands for The Johnlock CONSPIRACY or the belief that the writers are making a gay romance and lying about it. The truth is out there. *x files theme*

It's been over five years since Series 4 first aired. While many of us shut away BBC Sherlock and our time with it as a result, I think a re-examination of both the show and the TJLC reading is long overdue.
