Soon the last of the British garrisons and British administrators in the Middle East will be leaving the Persian Gulf. The remaining British Protectorates there will emerge from the shadows of the Empire on which the sun has set - seven tiny desert sheikdoms of which Dubai is one. But there will still be jobs for British administrators and policemen East of Suez - men like Jack Briggs. Tonight's film is about an Arab Sheik, his British policeman and the patch of desert they both love and for which they both feel deeply responsible.
