  • S01E01 Wine Country Speak Easy

    Based only on clues they've learned about the homeowner, from inside the house, Jake and Joel Moss use reclaimed trusses from a field to shelter a bar area with a wine barrel wall and decomposed granite floors. A rendition of the homeowner's artwork is stenciled onto a concrete slab and an arbor leads into a nature area. A comedy of errors, and arguments occurs as Jake and Joel attempt to build the fence and arbor before being bailed out by their hired help.

  • S01E02 Camera Ready Backyard

    Jake and Joel go vintage-chic as they tackle the backyard of an aspiring theater actress who likes to party. In two days, Brothers Moss and crew will pour a film reel concrete pad, build two film strip bar/barbeque half-circles with concrete countertops, and create an impressive eight-foot high water feature that repurposes old roller-type conveyor belts from a fruit packing facility. Add original artwork and a painter's nook, then witness a homeowner's reaction that's worthy of a best actress nod.

They turn an existing debris-filled hole into a massive, natural eco-system pond stocked with big catfish and bass--with a sandy beach, cantilevered redwood dock and giant boulders along the water's edge. Figuring out the homeowners have a child, an overhead aircraft-inspired redwood tree house will make the kid's imagination take off-if they can finish all this before the family returns.

    Based only on clues they've learned about the homeowner from inside the house, Jake and Joel Moss turn this yard into a 50's diner with edge. They add a concrete patio, a 50's style diner bar, a privacy screen of galvanized steel and airbrushed skulls, a motorcycle fire feature, and a trampoline area for the kid. Without properly thinking it through or consulting his brother, Joel decides to stray from Jakes design and sink the trampoline 3 feet into the ground for esthetics. It quickly becomes a disaster project and Joel admits to Jake he is in over his head!

Three areas set the scene: the refurbished deck that houses a TV, barbeque, super long reclaimed wood bar faced with ledge cut stone and sunken lights; along with the oversized crop circle stepping stones that lead to a recycled tractor-rim fire pit and seating circle; and finally the surreal towering twisted metal and rock art sculpture that doubles as a bench. Bordering the space are half-moon metal partition-walls embedded with blasts of Kryptonite-AKA recycled windshield glass.

Anchored in the center of the yard by a rustic water feature made from railroad ties, the yard features a custom bar faced with period specific wainscoting, a deck made from composite materials and one of a kind privacy wall inspired by the homeowners wedding picture.

The brothers take inspiration from the Rubicon Trail, a well known passage used by off-road vehicle enthusiasts in California's High Sierras. They build a luxury campsite complete with an historic logging flume waterfall that spills into a serene pond, bring in huge mountain top boulders, fashion a firepit out of moss rocks that doubles as a barbeque, and forge a trailway big enough for a jeepster to park his rig on to enjoy the peace and quiet of the regal yet rustic space.

Taking their cues from the homowners fleet of restored vehicles including a souped up hot rod, they create a one of a kind out door area including a bar faced with road signs and a hanging glass rack fashioned from a classic car bumper. The ranch style landscaping is anchored by a new lawn and finished off with time honored split rail fencing. A refurbished deck leads to an outdoor camping area complete with a firepit and space to park their fully restored cherry red travel trailer.

    The Moss brothers take their inspiration for this backyard makeover from the faraway land of Nepal. The result is a gathering spot for family and friends underneath a super-high pitched roof pergola adorned in festive paint and curved headers, a beefy Old World square table with sturdy matching bench stools, a huge stacked-stone terraced garden brimming with flowers and herbs, chicken coops roofed in cedar and an extra-long, two-tiered barbecue island with a drop-in grill.

    The Moss brothers find their inner zen and bring a much-needed sense of calm to a hectic backyard. The outdoor oasis is centered around a namaste retreat, complete with a lotus-shaped fire feature floating on a tranquil pool and surrounded by concrete yoga dome seating. Across the yard sits a retro lounge with a slatted wall for privacy, a roof terrace covered in artificial turf and a new concrete block bar. To add to the period feel, the yard is finished off with vibrant plants and surrounded by red lava rock.

    The Moss brothers take on a midcentury modern makeover in the style of the home's architecture. The yard is huge and the design is overly ambitious for two-day makeover. They build an oversized bamboo composite deck and then add large timber walls with shelves and a vertical slatted backdrop, a brick fire feature with a stainless steel hood, uber-long brick planters and a bird lover's dream of a water feature complete with two sandhill cranes frolicking in the pond.
