The kidnappers send word that Anna Maria must meet them if she wants proof her father is still alive, but Diego warns her it is a trick. Romero argues that she must go, so she agrees to go with him, Garcia and Reyes. Don Alejandro arrives from Los Angeles and wants to ask the army to surround the area until the others convince him of the danger.
That night Anna Maria meets with the kidnappers and tearfully greets her father. The masked men tell him to ride into town for the money while they hold his daughter hostage, then order Garcia and Reyes to stay behind. Verdugo leaves with Romero, whom Alejandro recognizes as a criminal thrown out of Los Angeles.
Romero pulls out a knife and orders Verdugo to give him the money. Later, one of the kidnappers announces that Romero and a monk have returned with the money. To the thieves' surprise, they see that the monk is really Zorro, who uses Romero as a shield. Pablo kills his cohort in cold blood, forcing Zorro to engage the kidnappers with his sword. Aided by Garcia, he defeats them and sets Anna Maria free. With the robbers safely behind bars, the travelers prepare to head back to Los Angeles, where Diego has promised to deliver a love letter from Anna Maria to Zorro.
Pour avoir la preuve que son père est toujours en vie, Anna Maria se montre prête à tout. Elle accepte de rencontrer les ravisseurs à l'endroit qu'ils lui ont indiqué. Pressentant un funeste piège, Don Diego tente de l'en dissuader. Malgré cette mise en garde, Anna se rend aux ruines, accompagnée du sergent Garcia, de Romero Serrano et du caporal Reyes...
Don Alejandro megérkezik Monterey-be és a rossz hírt hallva a hadsereget akarja segítségül hívni. Időközben Anna Maria elmegy, hogy láthassa az apját, de a banditák túszul ejtik. Verdugót arra kényszerítik, hogy hozza el a pénzt a lánya életéért cserébe. Don Alejandro a Verdugo-haciendán várakozik, amikor Verdugo és Serrano megérkeznek a pénzért. Don Alejandro felismeri Serranót, és elmondja Verdugónak, hogy a fiatalember egy szélhámos, és valószínűleg ő áll a pénzrablók mögött. Meggyőzi Verdugót, hogy ne adja át a pénzt. Serrano ekkor rátámad, de Zorro időben érkezik, hogy megmentse a két öreg életét. Legyőzi Serranót, aki azzal zsarolja, hogy Anna Mariát megölik, ha ő nem tér vissza a pénzzel. Zorro, pajzsként használva Serranót, elmegy a találkozóhelyre. A szócsata után Pablo lelövi Serranót, Zorro pedig legyőzi az emberrablókat. Anna Maria újra szabad és búcsúzáskor egy szerelmeslevelet bíz Diegóra, hogy adja azt át Zorrónak.
I rapitori fanno sapere ad Anna Maria, che se vuol avere la prova che il padre è vivo, deve recarsi in un luogo stabilito e senza le guardie, ma Diego la avverte che potrebbe essere una trappola. Nonostante ciò, Romero riesce a convincerla e così i due, accompagnati da Garcia e Reyes, vanno incontro ai banditi. Intanto arriva Don Alejandro che, dopo aver appreso quanto accaduto all’amico, vuole far intervenire la guardia militare, ma viene bloccato proprio da Verdugo, che è stato liberato mentre in cambio è stata presa in ostaggio Anna Maria.
Alejandro riconosce Romero come il figlio criminale di un suo vecchio amico. Sentendosi scoperto Romero sfodera un coltello e intima a Verdugo di consegnargli il denaro. Proprio in questo momento arriva Zorro che ferma Romero e architetta un piano per liberare la ragazza. Travestito da monaco Zorro torna assieme a Romero all’accampamento dei banditi, ma questi rimangono sorpresi quando scoprono chi si nasconde sotto il saio. Romero viene ucciso da Pablo mentre Zorro, con l’aiuto di Garcia riesce a liberare Anna Maria. Con la banda di truffatori finalmente fuori combattimento Diego parte per Los Angeles, con il compito di consegnare una lettera d’amore di Anna Maria a Zorro.
