After eating the food Yoichi had cooked, the old man Takizawa noticed that the knife had become dull, and left, telling Yoichi to come to Izu if he wanted it sharpened. When Yoichi and the others arrived in Izu, they were reunited with Shokichi. Takizawa said that he would only let them see the sharpness of the knife in their hearts without using it, as a condition for sharpening the knife.
陽一の作った料理を食べ、包丁に問題があると見抜いた滝沢老人は、「包丁を研いでほしくば伊豆へ来い」と告げて去った。陽一らは伊豆に行き、「包丁を使わず、心の包丁の切れ味を見せてほしい」と滝沢に言われる。
