La sabbia nera dell'Etna sommerge Catania e Vanina è costretta a fare i conti con la fine della sua storia con Paolo, mentre un cadavere riemerso dal passato reclama le sue attenzioni. In una villa disabitata viene ritrovato il cadavere mummificato di una donna si tratta di Maria Cutò, prostituta morta cinquant'anni prima. Vanina scopre che lì era stato ucciso anche Gaetano, l'uomo con cui sarebbe dovuta fuggire, forse ucciso dalla mafia. Ma qual è la verità? Si tratta di pura coincidenza? Il caso all’epoca era stato risolto in fretta ma la poliziotta scopre un terribile passato.

Découvrir l'identité de ce cadavre vieux de cinquante ans s'avère compliqué pour Vanina et ses collègues. Patanè, un ancien commissaire à la retraite ayant enquêté à l'époque sur un meurtre ayant eu lieu dans cette même villa, vient prêter main-forte à l'équipe. Jalousie, mafia et trahison sont au programme de cette enquête, qui se révèle plus complexe que prévue.
