For the last month, Doctor Julian Bashir has remained on Cardassia Prime, supervising the vaccination of the population and eradication of Koval’s pathogen. In the meantime, his lunch with Elim Garak led to many revelations…some surprising, and others…astounding. The Andorian government had been considering leaving the Federation. While Federation assistance and resources were a vital part of restoring Andoria to its pre-War state, the Federation is an enormous alliance and every planet required a level of reconstruction. Andoria, however, is not known for its patience and feels somewhat entitled to priority assistance due to its role as a founding member. There is more to this story – and if anyone can finish a good story, it’s Jake Sisko.
Jake Sisko has called in some favours in his efforts to determine how his friends were killed in alleged accidents. While he doesn’t realize the double nature of Julian’s life, Jake is bordering on obsession in bringing peace to the families and friends of their lost comrades, with Section 31 is in his sights. Garak has attended to the Andorian issue, but little is known about his involvement with the Breen. Garak’s intentions with the Andorians were an honourable attempt to stabilize a Federation still reeling from the Romulan sim conflict – a conspiracy created by operatives within the highest echelons of Starfleet.
Though Julian Bashir and Elim Garak have decided to forge an alliance between Section 31 and the Obsidian Order, the Breen involvement in Bajor’s political interests continues to perplex the two – and Jake Sisko isn’t racing to the finish line himself. An unexpected ally has turned out to be involved in a Section 31 mission, and the only person she has tried to reach out to is Quark. We can only hope that this communication is the first of many.
Bashir and Garak continue to push the limits of espionage by joining forces, yet limiting knowledge of their missions. Jadzia’s involvement with Intendant Kira may complicate matters, but that doesn’t mean their hands are tied. The mystery of Kai Kira’s possible connection to the Breen, however, definitely complicates matters. As Quark continues his work to bring Jadzia home safely, he is also awaiting word from his contacts in the Gamma Quadrant. Until he hears more, it seems that information is at a standstill.
Julian Bashir and Elim Garak have learned that Jadzia is suffering from a mysterious ailment and that Bajor may be in the midst of some political intrigue. After procuring safe passage for Jadzia aboard the USS Akira, Quark is working with Jake as they continue to investigate the destruction of two starships at the Alpha Quadrant entrance to the Bajoran wormhole. Though frustration is increasing, they seem to be making progress.
Much is not as it seems, but the puzzle pieces are falling into place. Julian Bashir is en route to the Chamra Vortex. Jake Sisko is closing in on many of the answers he seeks. Quark is ready for Jadzia’s arrival at Deep Space Nine. And the Kiras Nerys are each establishing their own roles in the ongoing enigma.
